HKN marks, honors, and develops students; and conducts a range of Recognition and Award Programs to nationally encourage students' college contributions, nationally honors outstanding students, nationally honors outstanding young ECE college teachers, nationally honors outstanding young ECEs in the practice, and nationally identifies and honors exceptional people in our field of engineering for their contributions to society. Each of which serve as strong role models for all students, young engineers, and for that matter all engineers. Reference the "Faculty Advisors Reference Guideline", Section II, for a more detailed listing of the Honors, Recognitions, and Awards offered by Eta Kappa Nu at http://www.hkn.org/.

Eta Kappa Nu is not an "Honorary"; rather, it is a hands-on working honor society that conducts activities for the benefit of education and mankind. In that process if affords opportunities for members to learn and practice leadership and contribution to their fellow students, their college, their local schools, and the public, on a broad range of projects and activities. It has been observed that the very finest leadership training and experience comes from leading a volunteer organization, where the doers are inspired by their leaders, and perform out of choice and not because their livelihood depends upon it. These experiences in turn creates students who are much better prepared for the post-college real world, and makes them especially valuable and attractive to employers.
